چکیده

We analyze the mixing time of a class of oriented kinetically constrained spin models (KCMs) on a d-dimensional lattice of n sites. A typical example is the North-East model, a 0-1 spin system on the two-dimensional integer lattice that evolves according to the following rule: whenever a site’s southerly and westerly nearest neighbours have spin 0, with rate one it resets its own spin by tossing a p-coin, at all other times its spin remains frozen. Such models are very popular in statistical physics because, in spite of their simplicity, they display some of the key features of the dynamics of real glasses. We prove that the mixing time is O(n logn) whenever the relaxation time is O(1). Our study was motivated by the “shape” conjecture put forward by G. Kordzakhia and S.P. Lalley.

Cutoff for the East Process

The East process is a 1D kinetically constrained interacting particle system, introduced in the physics literature in the early 90’s to model liquid-glass transitions. Spectral gap estimates of Aldous and Diaconis in 2002 imply that its mixing time on L sites has order L. We complement that result and show cutoff with an O( √ L)-window. The main ingredient is an analysis of the front of the pro...

Lifetime of dynamic heterogeneity in strong and fragile kinetically constrained spin models

Kinetically constrained spin models are schematic coarse-grained models for the glass transition which represent an efficient theoretical tool to study detailed spatio-temporal aspects of dynamic heterogeneity in supercooled liquids. Here, we study how spatially correlated dynamic domains evolve with time and compare our results to various experimental and numerical investigations. We find that...

Dynamical arrest, tracer diffusion and Kinetically Constrained Lattice Gases

We analyze the tagged particle diffusion for kinetically constrained models for glassy systems. We present a method, focusing on the KobAndersen model as an example, which allows to prove lower and upper bounds for the self diffusion coefficient DS . This method leads to the exact density dependence of DS , at high density, for models with finite defects and to prove diffusivity, DS > 0, at any...

Dynamical first-order phase transition in kinetically constrained models of glasses.

We show that the dynamics of kinetically constrained models of glass formers takes place at a first-order coexistence line between active and inactive dynamical phases. We prove this by computing the large-deviation functions of suitable space-time observables, such as the number of configuration changes in a trajectory. We present analytic results for dynamic facilitated models in a mean-field...

Heterogeneity and growing length scales in the dynamics of kinetically constrained lattice gases in two dimensions.

We study dynamical heterogeneity and growing dynamical length scales in two kinetically constrained models, namely, the one- and two-vacancy assisted triangular lattice gases. One of the models is a strong glassformer and the other is a fragile glassformer. Both exhibit heterogeneous dynamics with broadly distributed time scales as seen in the distribution of persistence times. We show that the...
